Preparing for winter
Aviaries are great, birds really enjoy being outdoors, but what
about when its winter? It gets cold outside, and that's not good for parrots. This is why you can get a bird room, a bird room is usually attached to the aviary, they can be used in winter and when its just cold or very bad weather, a bird room is a sort of wooden house for birds. There are generally a few perches and a safe heater can be added. If you don't want a bird room, you can just simply move your birds back inside your house, but this is why bird rooms are really important for birds that are permanently in aviaries. |
Bird rooms aren't that complicated, a simple shed can
be turned into a bird room. |
Safety from animals
To ensure your birds are as safe as possible you should add
things to make you aviary more safe and secure. Firstly, depending on where you live, there could be dangerous animals eg. racoons, that try to get in the aviary. Racoons are smart, they have been known to open aviary doors! What you need do is add a pad lock, then they can open the door. Once that's done, you want to make sure the aviary is even more secure. If your aviary doesn't have a bottom, you should cover the floor with netting, animals can burrow remember! |
A racoon could easily open this door

Safety for your birds
To prevent your birds from escaping, there are some little things you can do, like getting a safe feeding system, the best system is a rotating system. Rotating systems are very safe, and are easy to use. Another great thing to do is add a double door, this is so
there is a door to open before you actually go into the aviary, if a bird accidentally fly's into the double door area, it can't get out, you just need to get it to fly back in the aviary. |
